IT Olympix "D' Challenge"
Written by Administrator
it_olympix official logo

Brief Overview: IT olympix is an academic competition for students enrolled in IT-related courses in the University of Southern Mindanao. The conduct of the activity is geared to provide a venue for IT students to participate in a healthy competition in computer programming, graphics design, networking, quiz bowl and other contested areas. It is designed to challenge the students in the hope that they will be molded and encouraged to become competent in their chosen field.

Objectives:

Generally, the activity is aimed to conduct academic competition in the following contested areas and to be participated by the BS Computer Science, BS Information Management/Information Systems and other IT-related courses:
1.    Quiz bowl;
2.    Computer Programming;
3.    Graphics Design; and
4.    Networking.

Theme:

“Striving for Excellence in ICT through Academic competitions”

Mechanics for Programming Competition

The programming competition is exclusive only for Computer Science and Information System students of the USM, CENCOM.
 Participants must be a 2nd year level up and currently enrolled this current semester.
There should be One (1) entry per year level and section. Every entry is composed of two (3) students.

During contest, the teams are given 7 hours to solve between 10 programming problems. They must submit solutions as programs in C++, or Java. Programs are then run on test data. If a program fails to give a correct answer, the team is notified about that and they can submit another program.

   5. JCreator is the IDE to be used for Java and Borland for C++.
   6. Each team can use only one computer, although teams have three students. This makes the time pressure even greater. Good teamwork and ability to withstand pressure is needed to win.
   7. The winner is the team which correctly solves most problems. If necessary to rank teams for prizes among tying teams, the placement of teams is determined by the sum of the elapsed times at each point that they submitted correct solutions. For example, consider a situation when two teams, Red and Blue, tie by solving two problems each. The team Red submitted their solutions to A and B at 1:00 and 2:45 after the beginning of the contest. They had a rejected run on C, but it was ignored since they didn't solve C. The team Blue submitted solutions to problems A and C at 1:20 and 2:00 after the beginning. They had one rejected run on C. Then, the total time is 1:00+2:45=3:45 for team Red and 1:20+2:00+0:20=3:40 for team Blue. The tie is broken in favor of Team Blue.
   8. Only the Judging committee has the right to determined if the submitted solution is correct.
